An independent Employer Awards Selection Committee reviewed nominations submitted by or on behalf of eighteen organizations within the metropolitan Washington region to decide which three would be heralded as award winners at the 29th Annual Commuter Connections Employer Awards Ceremony in June. Employers vying for the distinguished award demonstrate outstanding leadership toward offering commuter benefits and telework opportunities to their employees.
Employer support for sustainable transportation methods such as transit, bicycling, and carpooling, as well as flexible scheduling and teleworking bring increased levels of employee loyalty and overall workforce stability. This year’s employer awards program theme is “Champion for Change”— encouraging employees to change travel methods from drive alone commuting to sustainable transportation and providing the benefits for them to do so.
Research consistently shows that employers offering commuter benefits and telework gain a competitive advantage in areas such as recruitment and retention. Surveys by The Conference Board show that commuting is the second‑most important factor in job satisfaction, after workplace relationships, making strong commuter benefits a differentiator. In addition, programs to incentivize the use of more affordable commute methods and telework are among the most cost‑effective tools employers have.

This year’s Employer Award winners will be announced at the Commuter Connections 29th Annual Employer Awards Ceremony on June 30, 2026. Nominations for the 2027 Employer Awards will open on December 1, 2026, and close on January 31, 2027.
