RESOURCES

Commuting Resources

Commuter Connections provides many valuable resources to commuters looking for “A Smarter Way to Work.”

Looking for Rideshare information? Find your jurisdiction’s local Rideshare Program office in the Rideshare Programs tab below for the most comprehensive carpool/vanpool information. A local rideshare office helps match people together who are interested in forming a new carpool/vanpool and identify vacancies in existing vanpools. These offices specialize in carpooling/vanpooling in a specific jurisdiction and can provide detailed advice and information to commuters from those jurisdictions. You can also find a list of local commercial Vanpool Service operators in the “Vanpool Services” tab.

The Transit Sales Outlets tab helps commuters find the most convenient locations to purchase transit passes and fares.

Interested in learning more about Carsharing? Check out the Carsharing tab below to read up on the basics.

Visit the Regional TMA’s tab below to access a complete list of Transportation Management Associations in the area. These non-profit, member-controlled organizations provide transportation services in a particular area with the goal of reducing the demand on existing transportation infrastructure.

Also, find a list of other alternative transportation organizations view the Other Alternative Transportation Organizations tab below.

Looking for the best way to get around Downtown DC? Check out the Downtown DC tab below to view an interactive map of all transportation options (including transit, taxi services, bicycle routes, and carsharing)

Resources

Carsharing

Car Sharing is perfect for occasional use and is available daily or by the hour. Car sharing can be used for personal or business needs in lieu of car ownership or to augment ownership.  Car-sharing companies have collectively positioned hundreds of vehicles in neighborhoods within the Washington DC area.  Reservation systems available through apps and online help to locate, reserve and access vehicles 24/7, 365 days a year. After becoming a member, simply wave your member card on the windshield reader to automatically unlock the doors.  Keys and gas cards are located inside the vehicles.  Maintenance, insurance, and fuel are included in the rate.

Most carshare companies offer an assortment of vehicle makes and models. Turo and Getaround are peer-to-peer carsharing companies made up of a community of private individuals who offer members the opportunity to rent out their personal vehicles.

Unique rules and restrictions apply to each company, visit individual websites for current rates and information.

Downtown D.C

goDCgo is an initiative of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). As part of DDOT’s commitment to moving people and goods around DC as cleanly and efficiently as possible, goDCgo was created to provide employees, residents, and visitors with the education and assistance they need to make more informed choices about traveling in the District.

The goDCgo program focuses on the reduction of single-occupant vehicle travel and promotes the use of more sustainable modes of transportation, such as bicycling, walking, carpooling, vanpooling and using public transit.  The goDCgo website outlines an array of options for getting into and around the city and provides you with numerous resources to help plan your special trip or regular travel using a mode that minimizes your impact on the District’s streets and our environment.

Visit the goDCgo website to learn more about goDCgo’s core programs for Employer, Residential and Hospitality Services.  Click here to find out more about DC’s Commuter Benefits Law.
