Bike to Work Day is a great occasion for employees to give bicycling to work a try as the event welcomes first-time bike commuters. Registration is open for the free annual event taking place on Friday, May 15th across the DC, Suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. This spring’s Bike to Work Day is especially exciting as we celebrate 25 years of promoting healthy, happy bike commuting in the metropolitan Washington region.
Organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ (COG) Commuter Connections program and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), Bike to Work Day encourages commuters to experience the freedom and energy that comes with biking to work. The event has become a fun tradition, showcasing bicycling as an affordable and environmentally-friendly way to get to work.
With more than one hundred Bike to Work Day pit stop locations throughout the region, participants are likely to find one near their home or work location. Visit biketoworkmetrodc.org to see the various pit stop choices and event hours. The first 18,000 registered participants who attend a pit stop will receive a free Bike to Work Day T-shirt and will be eligible for a free bike raffle. Most pit stops offer free snacks, beverages, and giveaways, and some may even have free bike tune-ups and entertainment.
Thank you to the generous support of top regional sponsors including ICF, GO Alex, Arc’teryx, BicycleSPACE, goDCgo, and National Landing for helping to make Bike to Work Day 2026 a great experience.
