The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) will release the results of its State of the Commute (SOC) survey at its meeting on January 21. Conducted by the TPB’s Commuter Connections program, the SOC survey provides a comprehensive compilation and analysis of data collected from commuters between April and June 2025. More than 7,500 surveys were completed.
The findings offer an in-depth look at commuting and telework patterns across the metropolitan Washington region, as well as commuter satisfaction for all travel methods. Results will be available through an online interactive dashboard that visually displays key metrics and trends, to support data-driven decision-making.
Randomly sampled households from each of the eleven jurisdictions within the Commuter Connections regional service area participated in the survey. The SOC has been conducted every three years since 2001. The State of the Commute 2025 will be released at 2:00pm on January 21st and available at mwcog.org/commutedata
